Coast guard field inspectors and wooden boat builders, shipyard repairers, marine surveyors, and operators. special thanks goes to the following people who comprised the joint industry/coast guard wooden boat inspection working group and actively participated in the revision of nvic 1-63: mr. giffy full, surveyor, brooklin, maine. Nvic’s are numbered consecutively by year, e.g., nvic 7-02 would be the seventh nvic issued in 2002. the “zero” nvic, numbered 00, is always the index of nvic’s in force or still current at the beginning of the calendar year. for example, nvic 00-07 is a list of all nvic’s in effect as of january 1, 2007.. I am looking for information on wooden boat survey and the standards the surveyor should follow. i am having a major issue on a boat that was surveyed and do not feel that it was performed properly. thanks. Nvic 7-95, guidance on inspection, repair and maintence of wooden hulls, suggests 1/12 slope on glued scarf joints used on wood structural members for small passenger vessels. click to expand... the document extract states the plain scarf is the simplest and strongest of the glued scarf joints.. After the traditional carvel-planked wooden vessel, el toro ii, sank in the chesapeake bay in 1993, taking the lives of one crew member and two passengers, the coast guard developed new policy, the navigation and vessel inspection circular (nvic) 7-95..
